Windows 10 Play Music With Screen Off

I have found that on my new XPS 13 9360 with the creators update, if I am playing back music from any source (Spotify for example), when the screen turns off after a couple of minutes, audio seems to get muted.
I encountered the same problem (also on the XPS13 interestingly). It seems to have to do with how the audio is actually played, see for example this thread. One solution that was suggested was to use a screensaver that's a black screen, and set your screen to never turn off.
I think I have another solution, but it requires a second monitor/TV...If you set it as \"Duplicate screens\", when you turn off both of them then sound (Spotify or another sound program) it continues on playing.
Level up your music experience in Teams with the High fidelity music mode. This setting provides you with the capability to create a richer sound experience when you transmit music to listeners in a Teams meeting or call.
In this mode, Teams supports a 32kHz sampling rate at 128kbps when network bandwidth allows. The internal audio processing is optimized for reproducing music with high fidelity. When network bandwidth is insufficient, the bitrate can be reduced to as low as 48kbps and Teams still produces good-quality audio.
Audio playback during Modern Standby enables the system to play music while the display is powered off. The system is expected to consume less power when playing music in Modern Standby than playing music when the display is powered on. The goal of audio playback testing is to verify the system can play sound through the internal speakers and headphones, and that the user can adjust the volume by using the volume buttons during Modern Standby in a low-power state.
Start with a system that is un-muted and use the inbox Music app to play a 256-kilobits/second .mp3 track. Put the system into Modern Standby. Make sure that the sound continues to play through the speakers and that the volume can be adjusted through the volume buttons while the screen is powered off. Also try to plug in headphones to make sure that the sound gets transferred from the internal speakers to the headphones.
Unfortunately, Spotify stops playing immediately when the screen turns dark to safe energy - in battery mode after 3 minutes. the ultrabook is still active and spotify appears on the lockscreen and starts playing immediately when the screen turns on again.
Is this the same for when you set the screen off mode to never I recall seeing a while ago that if you use the webplayer through Microsoft Edge you can circumvent the issue (don't quote me on that one though!)
I've already tried setting sleep mode to never and restarted the pc several times. it doesn't work - when the display goes dark to save energy the music stops playing just 5 seconds later. the pc is then not turned off though.
The good news is that a fix for this is in the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. With this update playback on Spotify can continue while the screen is off to conserve your battery power. While you might not have this update yet, you can update Windows manually by going here: -us/help/4028685/windows-10-get-the-fall-creators-update. The music will, however, stop when your computer goes to sleep. You can control the sleep settings in the Power & sleep settings.
Since music playback stops when the Surface goes to sleep, turning sleep off entirely and making it so that the tablet does not go to sleep in any case will definitely solve the problem for you. To turn sleep off:
Locking your Microsoft Surface is an excellent alternative to putting it to sleep. While music and video playback are programmed to stop when a Surface goes to sleep, they are not programmed to go to sleep when the tablet is locked. To lock your Microsoft Surface, you need to:
While playing a game, you may want to listen to your playlist rather than the in-game music to get the most out of your gaming experience. Unfortunately, it can be a pain to alt-tab out of the game to control your music.
This keyboard combination will display an overlay on top of your game that lets you control the computer's volume, capture video, see a performance monitor, and shows a toolbar full of other widgets at the top of the screen.
Raicya, I think we're talking about two different things, and maybe I have a massive misunderstanding about how Airplay is supposed to work. My question is not about how to re-activate the player control (controlling \"Soldier On\" in your screenshots just now) after the iPhone screen auto-locks. I understand how to do that (I use face recognition instead of a passcode, but that doesn't matter), and I understand that once the phone is unlocked that screen disappears if I launch an app or interact in other ways with my phone (maybe that is what you mean by \"Then Airplay is Off\", just above). But that's only temporary; the player control re-appears, again and again, in my lock screen, even when I haven't been playing music or a podcast, or whatever, for many hours. Maybe that's because Airplay is always \"on\", even if nothing is actually playing. So my question is how to get that behavior to stop. I don't--ever--want to see that player control on my lock screen. Full stop. I'd be happy for Airplay to be totally disabled--except when I choose to turn it on to use it. How to make that happen :-)
Yes, we're talking about the same icon. But as I said, that simply brings up a list of devices I can choose to Airplay \"to\" (TV, iPhone, MacBook Pro, even my hearing aids). There is no \"off\" button or option, nor are there any on-screen instructions....
I appreciate your help. This is all a bit weird, though. My Airplay list seems to require that one device be selected at all times; I cannot deselect all of them. See screenshot taken from lock screen while a podcast was playing:
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I understand that Airplay is involved--and that simply \"turning it off\" may be the solution. But as I've said, I cannot see a way to do that. I can't seem to find a button that toggles Airplay on or off on the phone (even in Settings>General>Airplay & Handoff, which is where I'd expect to see that). And again, please see my screen shot from a few minutes ago. It won't let me uncheck (disconnect) ALL of the devices visible there; it appears that one must be checked at any given time. If, for instance, I click on MacBook Pro, Airplay will send the audio signal from the iPhone to the laptop, as expected. But if I then click to uncheck the MacBook Pro, Airplay automatically re-selects the iPhone. Can't deselect all the devices. Can't turn off Airplay completely. The widget persists on the lock screen. Most frustrating.
just yesterday i noticed that when i had any audio playing in firefox, the title shows up next to the volume meter when adjusting my computer's volume with keyboard keys. spotify used to do this when i used to use it and it was a pain to disable it. how do i disable it in firefox
My problem was similar but not identical. I got the \"Firefox is playing media\" on the lock screen on 81.0.1 64bit. Started a few weeks ago I think. This appears intermittently. I am never playing media and it only seems to appear when I go away for 10mins and the lock screen appears. I am trying the solution shown here and will be back if it still appears. Hope this helps somebody.
A minute or so after the screensaver comes on music starts to play- soft piano music! Driving me nuts. Have not downloaded any screensavers - not had chance to do anything yet it, literally arrived a couple of days ago so just using it to e mail for now. Have tried all the HELP forums to switch this off. In the SOUND programme there are various ways to alter the sound i.e. when switching off or warning sounds but cannot see anything relating to this screensaver music.
Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize from the context menu. In the Personalization dialog, click on the Screensaver icon (You will also see the name of the selected screensaver with the icon). In the Screensaver Settings dialog, click the Settings... button. If the screensaver has any settings, you should be able to turn off the sound there.
Please post back with the name of the selected screensaver. Many computer manufacturers add software to their computers. It's quite possible that Samsung gave you a screensaver that does not come with Windows 7. 153554b96e
