When I got the boat I couldn't seem to get passed 4800rpm using a Viper SST 13.88\" dia x 17\" pitch.I had the dealer put on a smaller viper SST 13 7/8 dia x 15\" pitch & am now getting to 5000rpm. Next time I head out I'll also follow GlenE instructions on his Verado site to check. Anyway while 5000rpm is in the range, I was just wondering if anyone else with the same boat was also getting only 5k as well. It's also possible that my tacho (white E-tec analogue guages) is reading a few hundred rpm to low as some people on this forum suggested.I'm starting to suspect this even more now because when I put in the figures on the propeller slip calculator for the 4k, 4.5k & 5k I am getting unexpected results. According the the calculator:at 4k rpm I have 0.03 slipat 4.5k rpm I have 0 slip &at 5k rpm I have minus 0.3 slip which I figure is impossible. If my 4k reading was really 4.2k then the slip would be 0.08If my 4.5k reading was really 4.8k then the slip would be 0.06 &if my 5k reading was really 5.5k then the slip would be 0.08 which I figure are a bit more realistic slip figures RE the readings, I've downloaded the Etec dignostic software & now need to get the cable to confirm if the tacho is correct or not. I would of rigged with a 15 inch non swept and your revs would be around the 5200 with that prop.Yes Tachos can be slightly off and when you ge the coms cable and diagnostics you will have accurate RPM. The E-tec currently mounted on the 2nd hole from the top, which I guess is hole number 2. Yes we are based in Northern Sydney. As Mark said it has been discussed many times and it really will be too low at hole no.2 and to raise it, as Steve says is a 2 beer job-sorry mate to steal your line. In other words easy to do and as I mentioned I think the non swept blade SST will perform better on your hull. Water test it to see what the AV plate is like and raise it before swapping props. Also without the software the cable will not be much use to you-have you got the software Mate it does not plug into the EMM. Lokks easy. I think I'll try using the trailer method. One question though. A little confused from the threads about sealant. I think the threads refer to 5200 sealant. What is this & Huey what would we use in Oz Should we seal both top & bottom For bottom bolts, from what I understand, once the motor has been lifted, then before tightening the bottom bolts, pull them out & put sealant in the holes from inside the boatAlso, I have the software already (evinrude diagnostics 2.0.1.2) installed. By mistake, I used 5200 and believe me, that stuff dries hard. Not sure if you have yet, but on new rigs and repowers we also fit a teflon board in between the engine and hull to help with sealing and isolating the engine for the hull.Cheers,Huey.View Member ProfileFind Member's TopicsFind Member's PostsEscapeRegistered:1264813219Posts: 74Posted 1265185916Reply with quote #13 Hi, yes I would think most hardware stores have Skiaflex and yes that is like what we fit here and we seal in between the board and the hull. yes that is the connector for the diagnostic cable.
Computer software greatly simplifies DI diagnostics. The program does much more that the scan tools used to service other injection systems. Using a laptop computer and the Evinrude Diagnostic Software, the technician is guided through the troubleshooting procedure.
The diagnostics software must be used to perform certain service procedures, such as changing an injector or restarting the break-in mode for a rebuilt powerhead. The software has other features that make it a valuable tool. You can call up an RPM profile to examine how the engine has been used.
In most vehicles, these diagnostic codes will remain in memory for fifty engine warmup cycles. If the problem does not reoccur, the codes will be erased by the computer. Steer clear of a mechanic or shop that replaces parts without doing the proper diagnostics first. Checking for computer codes first is important because it may lead you to a rough running problem. And this is what you should expect a competent mechanic to do if you present them with this kind of problem. 153554b96e
